Woman crashes into dump truck in North Carolina

When driving, many drivers may not notice the industrial and construction employees working diligently on the side of the road, fixing roads, sinkholes and performing other routine work. Orange cones are supposed to highlight where workers are hard at work and if the project is big enough, drivers may see signs indicating they should reduce their speed since they are approaching a work zone. However, if there is one lone worker performing some maintenance tasks and drivers are not paying attention to the road, it is possible to injure workers.

Even if there is one worker working alone on the side of a North Carolina road, employers should protect their workers by clearly highlighting the work zone so drivers know to drive carefully throughthat area. However, it is still possible for an accident to take place and when it does, injured workers may be able to file a workers' compensation claim to receive benefits to cover their medical expenses.

Luckily, no worker was injured in a recent Smart Car accident in North Carolina. According to police officials, a female driver was driving the small vehicle in the outbound lanes at a high speed when she collided into a dump truck on the road. Fortunately, the dump truck that was on site to fill a sink hole was empty at the time the incident took place. If this were not the case and an employee would have been injured, the injured worker would have had to file a workers' compensation claim. If the injured worker had passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, his family may have been able to file the claim on his behalf.

Creating a safe working environment for road side workers is everyone's responsibility-not only should drivers slow down when they see someone working on the side of the road but North Carolina employers should take necessary precautions. When workers sustain injuries on the job, it is their right to file a workers' compensation claim. Doing so also highlights the need for extra safeguards in that particular field.
