Work-related injury results from road construction accident

Most drivers have gone through areas on the road where some type of construction is taking place. Often, individuals grumble about how the work is adding time to their commutes or otherwise inhibiting their plans. What they may think less about, however, is the fact that the people working in construction zones are at risk of suffering a serious work-related injury in the event of an accident.

North Carolina readers may be interested in an injury-causing accident that took place in another state. Reports stated that a construction flagger was working to direct traffic while roadwork was being conducted. While the flagger had a motorcyclist stopped in the northbound lane, another vehicle collided with the motorcycle and then the flagger.

The incident resulted in the motorcyclist suffering fatal injuries, and the flagger was seriously injured. The driver of the car was reported as being a 17 years old and did not suffer injuries in the incident. At the time of the report, it was not believed that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident. Additional information may become available at a later time.

Being hit by a vehicle undoubtedly caused significant injuries for the flagger. If North Carolina construction workers suffer a work-related injury in a similar event, they may find themselves struggling. If they want to work toward obtaining financial assistance for allowable expenses stemming from the on-the-job accident, they may wish to gain information on workers' compensation benefits. The process of obtaining these benefits can be complex, and legal assistance could prove useful.
