Workplace injuries prove fatal for trash collection worker

When North Carolina families send their loved ones off to work in the morning, they typically intend to see them later in the day. Unfortunately, some workers may not make it home if they suffer workplace injuries that prove fatal. This type of situation can be devastating and difficult on a variety of levels for the surviving family.

One family in another state is undoubtedly heartbroken by the news of the death of their loved one. Reports stated that the man worked for a trash collection company when he was involved in an accident while on duty. Apparently, the man had gotten out of the trash truck and was behind the vehicle when a pickup truck hit the man and crashed into the back of the trash truck.

The worker was taken from the scene by air ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries. He was reported as being 52 years old. The driver of the pickup truck was also injured in the incident, but those injuries were not considered life-threatening. The accident was still under investigation at the time of the report.

When workplace injuries lead to the death of a worker, the family may face many hardships in a short period of time. Because financial struggles are not uncommon after such an event, North Carolina families facing such situations may want to learn more about workers' compensation. In some cases, families may qualify for survivors' benefits that may help with loss of income and other financial damages resulting from the work-related accident. Understanding these benefits can be difficult, and it may be wise for interested parties to enlist the help of knowledgeable attorneys.
