Road construction accident leads to fatality, critical injuries

Areas of road construction can be immensely dangerous. Not only do drivers have to pay attention to changes in speed limits, traffic flow directions and other aspects, they also need to watch out for workers in the area. Unfortunately, many drivers do not take the time to practice caution in these zones, and they can easily cause a construction accident.

North Carolina readers may be interested in this type of incident that recently took place in another state. Reports indicated that a 66-year-old woman was driving near a road construction zone when she veered over the center line and traveled off the road. As a result, her vehicle hit two construction workers who were standing off the road at the time.

The individuals hit were reported as being a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. The younger worker suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident. The older man was transported from the scene to a medical center and was considered to be in critical condition at the time of the report. It was also noted that the driver of the vehicle was not injured and that speed was a suspected factor in the crash.

When a road construction accident occurs, the outcomes are often harrowing. If North Carolina workers suffer injuries or families lose loved ones in this type of event, it may be wise for them to look into their workers' compensation options. While benefits can help injured workers with medical bills and lost income, surviving families of workers killed on the job could also be entitled to certain benefits.
