Workers' compensation system fails to protect temp workers

The recession has taken a toll not only on consumersm but also on businesses-letting go of full-time employees, businesses increasingly have turned to temporary workers to fill employment vacancies. The temp industry now has 2.8 million workers, but these workers face a significantly higher chance of getting hurt on the job.

Not paying attention may lead to an accident that can result in injuries and even death.

Construction industry in N.C. leads in fatal workplace accidents

Workers injured in a construction workers' accident have legal benefits to consider. Although the number of workplace injuries and accidents has dropped in North Carolina, the construction industry was the leading industry for fatal workplace accidents in the past year. There were ten fatal construction accidents last year and 16 the year prior. Overall, there were 35 workplace fatalities last year and 53 the year before.

North Carolina workplace illnesses on the decline

North Carolina workers will be happy to know that their state is one of the eight states to see a decline in workplace injuries and illnesses in the last year. In fact, with a rate of 2.9 incidents for every 100 workers, it is one of the 15 states with a workplace injury rate lower than the national average of 3.4. The trend coincides with the national trend of lower workplace accidents.
