Labor commissioner rewards workplace safety in North Carolina

No matter what industry an employee is in, workers in North Carolina expect that certain steps will be made to protect their health and safety in the workplace. Their job is their livelihood, and if they suffer an injury in a work accident, their ability to maintain a job could be compromised. Workplace injuries could leave an employee in serious pain, cause them to endure medical issues and leave them with financial hardships. In these matters, workers’ compensation could be greatly beneficial.

It was reported that last year the injury rate for workers in North Carolina was the lowest it has ever been. A recent report indicated that although the numbers are low, it is still not low enough for the North Carolina Labor Commissioner. The health and safety of the workers within the state are a major concern. Although the rate of accidents and injuries are low, the commissioner said she sought to have zero injuries and fatalities in the workplace.

In order to commemorate and award the exemplars of workplace safety, an awards banquet was held. This also allowed the North Carolina Labor Commissioner to promote the goal of fewer accidents in the work environment statewide. It is everyone’s job to understand how to promote better work methods and safety measures. Looking at those winning awards for their efforts is just the start to making changes that will further reduce workplace accidents.

When an employee is injured on the job, they could endure serious hardships. Filing for workers’ compensation is a way to offset these costs. The injured worker could be left with expenses from medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and pain and suffering. Filing for this benefit could help the worker and their family recover from the work incident.

Dealing with and recovering from a work injury could be a difficult and lengthy process. The injured worker seeks to return to work as soon as possible, but this could be constrained by their injury. Moreover, their employer should seek to understand how the accident occurred. This will help them to correct practices and methods in the workplace in order to promote a safer environment.
